Chef April Bloomfield and partner Ken Friedman have reopened the Tosca Cafe in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood-the duo’s first opening outside of New York City.
Led by owner Ken Friedman, renovations to the 93-year-old space uphold the charm and character maintained by former owner Jeannette Etheredge. Naugahyde banquettes have been replaced with red leather, while picture lights now showcase the restored murals of Italian towns. Opera posters and celebrity portraits also adorn the walls.

The four-foot-tall espresso machine, jukebox, and piano kept their original places, and a bright red, vintage Italian slicer now sits behind the bar for charcuterie plates assembled in view of the dining room. The kitchen was additionally completely overhauled, as Tosca hasn’t served food since the 1960s.
