Grant Hearn, CEO of Travelodge, has officially opened the Bethnal Green Travelodge and has also announced the company’s location target list for a further 145 hotels across London.
Debuting as the first UK hotel above a comedy club, the $16.6 million property features 131 rooms above London’s Backyard Comedy Club. Comedian Lee Hurst⎯⎯the site’s previous owner⎯⎯agreed with its redevelopment in return for a rebuilt comedy club on the ground floor. To mark the opening, Travelodge is introducing a toilet roll imprinted with cartoons and jokes.
Travelodge’s expansion starts with three hotels in Hounslow, Vauxhall, and Walthamstow this year, representing (including Bethnal Green) an investment of $51 million and 80 new jobs across the capital.
Travelodge is targeting key London growth areas⎯⎯including Westminster, Camden, Southwark, Lambeth, Islington, Ealing, and Greenwich.
“The London hotel market is the strongest in the world and our target location list reflects its growth potential,” says Hearn.
