As of November 1, Houston-based Burwell Architects has merged into the Corporate Interior Studio of Ziegler Cooper Architects, also based in Houston.
Formed in January of 2004, Burwell Architects has been a boutique firm offering complete design services, with a client base focused on the corporate and real estate communities, while Ziegler Cooper Architects recently celebrated its 33rd anniversary and has four design studios—Work Place, Living Place, Learning Place, and Worship Place.
Both firms believe the synergies between them will enable them enhance their offerings and expand the services they can provide to clients. William M. Burwell AIA, principal at Burwell Architects, has said: "Burwell Architects’ corporate client profile fits beautifully into the Work Place Studio at Ziegler Cooper Architects. Our systems and philosophies are so parallel that our transition will be seamless and transparent with our team working with our clients." At the newly merged firm, Burwell will have a similar role of design leadership and marketing, while Georgina Guzman will provide project management and technical coordination, and Rachel Hoover will retain her position as interior designer.
Mark S. Nolen, AIA, LEED AP, principal-in-charge of the Ziegler Cooper Architects Corporate Interiors Studio, adds, "It couldn’t have been a better fit. The Burwell Architects team adds a significant level of experience to our team. In addition, we believe this expanded team will benefit existing Burwell Architects clients through comprehensive services in corporate interiors as well as expanded services in commercial architecture and tenant services."
