Starwood and Hyatt have announced plans for increasing their presence in India. Starwood has plans to grow its existing portfolio of 26 hotels in the country 60 percent by 2013. The company and its partners have 15 hotels under development—including six Aloft hotels—three of which are slated to open this year.
Meanwhile, Hyatt also will open three new properties in 2010: Hyatt Regency Pune, Hyatt Regency Chennai, and Grand Hyatt Goa. In addition, the company will expand into 15 new Indian markets—including Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune—over the next five years. About one-fourth of Hyatt’s global pipeline of more than 120 properties is earmarked for India.
