W Hotels Worldwide has announced plans for two new properties in Mexico, both slated to open in 2014. W Santa Fe, the brand’s second hotel in Mexico City, will be designed by architect Richard Meier with interiors courtesy of Mexico-based Edmonds International and Krause + Sawyer out of New York. A dramatic staircase will serve as a sculptural centerpiece of the 132-key hotel’s multistory Living Room Amenities will include several destination bar and restaurant options, including W’s signature Living Room bar and café; WET pool deck with outdoor bar; 4,000 square foot Away Spa, with nine treatment rooms; fitness facilities, and 7,800 square feet of meeting and event space.
Meier will also design W Retreat & Spa Kanai – Riviera Maya, located within an exclusive beachfront community. The hotel will appear to float on a carpet of mangroves set against the infinite horizon of sea and sky. Buildings and landscape will flow into one another, as meandering gardens and courtyards, sinuous pools, and waterworks intersect with terraces and foot paths. Guestrooms, designed by the New York-based firm Meyer Davis Studio, will have unobstructed views of the sea. Designed as continuous living areas, interior spaces will merge with an exterior deck furnished with lounge seating, cocktail bar, exterior tub, and shower. The decks will be enclosed by retractable privacy screens and sun shading louvers.
