Designers at UXUS created a contemporary, yet classic style for the property, honoring the original 1913 Maryland Hotel-known as the house of sunshine and hospitality-with new life.

The intimate and sophisticated design of the hotel’s foyer references an elegant mansion. Refined, yet relaxing and still luxurious, the entryway evokes a serene feeling layered with historical significance and features a fireplace, dramatic lighting, and reinvented architectural details. Gray, brown, and taupe are repeated throughout the space as a nod to the hotel’s original architect, Arthur Brown Jr.

Each of the hotel’s 74 individual guestrooms, which include 20 suites, has been refashioned with soft lighting, residential furnishings, and a refined color palette of gray and white with pops of golden yellow and cobalt blue. Original headboards and armoires have been preserved but updated in modern shades. Historical photographs curated from the San Francisco Public Library archives adorn the walls.
