W Hotels Worldwide has opened the first W Hotel in Mainland China. Debuting in Ghangzou on the Pearl River, the W Ghangzhou marks the 44th W hotel worldwide.

New York- and Toronto-based Yabu Pushelberg collaborated on the design with Toronto-based Glyph Design Studio, Hong Kong-based ADSO, Tokyo-based A.N.D, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-based designWilkes.
“We are delighted to debut the W brand’s modern, design-led experience in Mainland China,” says Stephen Ho, president of Asia Pacific, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. “As Guangzhou sets the pace for its continuing transformation from ancient to modern, W Guangzhou will help redefine the emerging cosmopolitan and urban lifestyle.”
The 317-room hotel echoes the city’s modernity with a black glass exterior⎯⎯designed by Hong Kong-based architect Rocco Yim. Inspired by local Kesi tapestries and the city’s commercial past, the interiors boast bold colors and innovative structures with dramatic detailing. A 62-foot tall water wall⎯⎯a light and water installation inspired by impressionist paintings⎯⎯highlights the entranceway. A suspended modern nest tethered with metal strips is also among the hotel’s functional but artistic installations.
F&B outlets include Woobar⎯⎯furnished with artistic décor⎯⎯and Fei Ultralounge, which boasts a pulsating light installation. Serving Japanese cuisine, I by Inagiku offers both indoor and garden dining options, while inspired by orchids, Yan Yu’s cream white palette extends to the private dining rooms, each reflecting a different hue of the orchid.

W Ghangzhou offers more than 21,527 square feet of meeting and event space⎯⎯including the Verve private multi-function room with floor-to-ceiling windows. A spa, heated indoor pool, and fitness center complete the amenities.
