New York restaurant B² Harlem has debuted its new look courtesy of HGTV designer and co-owner Mikel Welch. The gut renovation transformed the site of a former local restaurant into an upscale setting with historically influenced charm.
The design recalls the glamour of the 1920s and the Prohibition Era. Thick velvet curtains, picture moldings, and antique mirrors sourced locally via Craigslist and thrift stores set the scene. The custom bar features quartz marble and tufted leather as well as a sliding ladder mirroring a 1920s pharmacy. Seating has also been salvaged and reupholstered to ensure no two chairs are alike. Geometric checkered floor tiling in the dining room further perpetuates the vintage look, while fossilized antique java bamboo wood flooring near the bar and front of the house opens up the space and establishes balance.
