The new Alaska Airlines Flagship Lounge has opened at the SeaTac International Airport in Seattle, Washington. Crafted by local firm Graham Baba Architects, the lounge bucks convention with a warm and welcoming aesthetic deeply rooted in the aesthetics of the Pacific Northwest.
Alaska Airlines travelers can unwind or plug in across four zones: Come In, the approachable entry experience; Help Yourself, the casual bistro; Take a Breath, a designated relaxation space; and Cut Loose, the intimate bar. A range of oak and twisted metal screens span the interior, while each zone is populated with distinctive furnishings, as well as acoustic, floor, and ceiling materials. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of runways, downtown Seattle, and Mount Rainier, while a large central fireplace serves as the space’s main focal point. Custom chaise loungers line the windows in addition to high-backed, tufted fabric banquettes that weave through the lounge to form semi-private nooks.
The monolithic bistro counter serves as the nucleus of the space, accommodating up to 100 guests across leather banquettes and movable tables. A walnut-topped ovular bar anchors Cut Loose, and end-grain floors are also dyed to blur the vertical transition into the indigo-dyed barfront.
