Instagram has moved into its new Manhattan headquarters inside the former Wanamaker’s department store near Astor Place. The office on the 14th floor of the building—the same as its parent company Facebook—is designed by Los Angeles-based Gehry Partners in collaboration with an in-house team to conceive the layout and structural elements of the space.
Flooded with natural daylight, the workspace is equipped with shared desks on the eastern and western sides of the floor beneath massive, arched windows—a landmarked detail of the property. Conference rooms and communal spaces sit at the heart of the 60,000-square-foot offices as well, while details like a colored gradient, green wall and a digital greeting wall punctuate the interior.
A corridor features a geodesic half-dome made from color-changing, dichroic glass below user-controlled lighting that is perfect for selfies. To honor the principles of the brand, the New York office also boasts a soundproof media studio where employees and guests can snap photos with a variety of backgrounds. In addition to a library space, the bar concept Thirsty Flamingo is installed with a palette of peach tones.
