Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers (HSJ) has unveiled an ornate new store in the heart of Lucknow, the capital of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Delhi-based architecture firm Ravish Mehra Deepak Kalra (RMDK) collaborated on the design of the 10,000-square-foot store alongside the Center for Applied Arts to position the retail experience as an intersection of art and luxury.
The store greets shoppers via a 30-foot-tall glass door that frames a view inside. The reception space is anchored with an elliptical elevator composed of red glass and wrapped by the spiral staircase. Colorful floor inlays are inspired by traditional Meenakari craft that also serve as the inspiration for the roof design. The ground floor is exclusively home to gold jewelry, which is displayed against a backdrop of red hues. The Daily Wear Gold section embraces a simpler palette of white and gold to complement the pearl-like walls of reception. Neutral tones like charcoal and deep brown soften some of the interior spaces.
Upstairs, diamonds and silver are showcased in the same lower-level display cases, which recall antique maestro paintings to accent the opulence of the jewelry. In addition to a blue palette, the diamond section is demarcated with a bullseye arch display as well as white origami floral accents that inject the minimalist space with a dash of grandeur.
