Muni delivers an indoor golf experience that blends immersive play with an inviting social setting in Pointe Saint-Charles, Québec.
Housed within the Nordelec, an industrial heritage structure from 1913, Muni features a design that respects the iconic building’s storied past.
The brick-clad façade and expansive windows provide a dramatic exterior, while Montreal-based Ivy Studio preserved the industrial character inside via exposed concrete floors, structural steel, and raw brick walls. These robust materials are softened by warmer, more refined design details to create a welcoming yet dynamic environment.
The spatial flow inside Muni
Spanning 6,943 square feet, Muni occupies a ground-floor corner unit with its own entrance. Guests are greeted by a double-height entry area featuring a retail space and reception counter clad in rich green oak veneer. Original concrete steps, enhanced with custom millwork, guide visitors to the main club area above.
A central corridor anchors the design, dividing the space into two distinct zones.
On one side, seven private golf simulator lounges are arranged to foster privacy and comfort. Each lounge functions like a semi-private living room, furnished with a combination of high-top tables, plush banquette seating, and checkered light features. The final lounge expands to house three simulators for larger groups.
Opposite the lounges is a full-service restaurant and bar. The dining area features a mix of elevated banquette seating in deep green and navy-striped upholstery, complemented by a long communal table.
A secondary entrance at the rear connects the club to the rest of the Nordelec building, while a staircase behind the reception counter leads to a mezzanine space for private events and gatherings.
Introducing warmth in an industrial setting
The material palette is inspired by classic golf club aesthetics, balancing the raw industrial backdrop with a warm and sophisticated aesthetic. Deep forest greens, light putting-green-inspired tones, and burgundy accents create a vibrant atmosphere, while warm red oak veneer, green and red marble, and glossy mint green walls add depth and intimacy.
Lighting at Muni
Lighting sets the ambiance throughout Muni, beginning at the reception, where a monumental lightbox encased in deep green wood creates an eye-catching focal point from both inside and out.
Within the restaurant, soft, fabric cylinder fixtures float from the open ceiling, while custom steel sconces with burgundy panels line the walls. Above the bar, triangular pendant lights, inspired by golf flags, cast an intimate glow. Meanwhile, bespoke chrome sconces lend a residential feel to the simulator lounges.
Along the central corridor, an illuminated gallery of retro golf imagery evokes the timelessness of a country club “hall of fame,” adding a nostalgic yet playful touch.
