New York-based creative studio CIVILIVN has revealed its design for the latest Newlab outpost, not far from the company’s headquarters at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Located at 77 Washington Avenue, the new multidisciplinary tech hub totals nearly 30,000 square feet to accommodate its growing network of more than 800 engineers, entrepreneurs, and inventors.
The design accentuates the former manufacturing building’s industrial character. Upon entrance, visitors are welcomed by a custom aluminum laminate reception desk that is mounted on painted plywood tubes to offset the space’s original masonry walls and exposed ceiling girders. The contemporary work environment comprises conference rooms that bisect open floors and create distinct zones—supporting the idea of a flexible workspace. Workstations, informal breakout areas, and private conference rooms also round out the interior, with large windows that soften the boundary between Newlab and Brooklyn’s cityscape.
