New York-based architecture firm Snarkitecture has revealed plans to introduce Snark Park—its first permanent exhibition at Hudson Yards in Manhattan. Announced on the heels of the firm’s 10th anniversary celebration, the immersive installation will serve as a culmination of Snarkitecture’s decade-long exploration of art and architecture and the curiosities that link them. It is set to open March 15th, 2019.
“We are thrilled to embark on this new journey at Hudson Yards,” says Snarkitecture partner Ben Porto. “Snark Park will act as an incubator for a host of bold new concepts—a catalyst for our imagination of the future of cultural spaces.”
Snark Park will comprise a series of playful environments integrated with Snarkitecture’s signature use of unconventional materials and concepts of reduction and monochrome. Everyday settings and objects will be radically reimagined to create unexpected moments that challenge the mind to reassess visual cues and spark imaginations. The space, one of several cultural offerings slated for rollout at Hudson Yards, will also feature an F&B and retail component.
Snarkitecture partner Daniel Arsham adds, “Our aim has always been to create architecture that performs unexpectedly, to explore the edges of art and architecture. With Snark Park we hope to encourage visitors to reconsider their built environment with childlike wonder.”
