Miami-based design firm McKenzie has completed its transformation of a historic New Providence Lodge building in the Overtown section of the city. The structure has reopened as the Tribe Urban Innovation Lab and Cowork, Miami’s newest coworking enterprise.
The two-story, 3,700-square-foot property is revamped with an open, modern layout that exudes airiness and promotes creativity. Original design elements like wood ceilings and steel beams remain intact to provide visual contrast to the new, cleaner finishes. The address will also house offices for the nonprofits Code Fever and BlackTech Week, which support diversity in the startup world and black entrepreneurship, respectively.
“Proper design is crucial for coworking spaces as today’s employees are looking for a work environment that’s vibrant, inspirational, and dynamic, not your standard office space,” says McKenzie design officer Jose Ortez. “Our design of Tribe creates this atmosphere while maintaining a flexible workspace that can evolve with time and continue to serve the local community for years to come.”
