Conrad New York hotel has received LEED Gold for New Construction Certification. This is the first LEED Gold New Construction major renovation project certified under the latest rating system in New York.
The Conrad New York-already the recipient of ISO 9000 certification in quality management and ISO 14001 certification in environmental management-satisfied the five categories of LEED certification for its construction, design, management, and operations. The categories include: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
Eco-friendly features at the hotel include a green roof and roof garden-growing vegetables for the hotel’s restaurant ATRIO and Danny Meyer’s North End Grill-as well as paint and paving that meets the certification.
Bike rakes are available for public use, while low flow plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption by more than 30 percent. LED lights account for more than 60 percent of the hotel lighting. Low VOC materials promote indoor air quality, while locally sourced materials, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood, and Energy Star kitchen equipment contribute as well.

“Conrad New York has demonstrated exceptional achievement in incorporating and establishing green building standards,” says Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO, and founding chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The framework for accessing this building performance isn’t an easy task and Conrad New York is one of only two hotels in New York City to meet the goals and standards set by LEED.”
