Choice Hotels International, Inc. and Concord Hospitality have begun construction on the first LEED certified Cambria Suites hotel. Also the first of the brand to be part of a mixed-use, urban design development, the new hotel is expected to open in Q2 of 2014 in Washington, DC.

The 182-room hotel will be built above the CityMarket at O-a mixed-use development one block from the Washington Convention Center. Constructed in 1881, the O Street Market-located in the center of the development-is one of five original markets in the capital. The development project will also feature green spaces, 629 residential units, 500 parking spaces, and 87,000 square feet of retail space.
The all-suite hotel will feature spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and an outdoor terrace with an open green space. Designed as an urban interpretation of the brand’s signature features, the Cambria Suites will include a LED-lit red terrazzo stairway housed in two stories of glass. The hotel will also employ local artists to depict neighborhood scenes throughout .

The project investment adds an estimated 300 jobs to the Washington metro area. “Travel means business,” he says. “By constructing this new Cambria Suites in this historic and resurging community, we’re not only giving visitors a great place to stay, we will be infusing millions of dollars into the local economy and community for years to come.”
