Forty 1° North in Newport, Rhode Island, is the first hotel in the state to achieve LEED certification. Twelve percent of the property was constructed from recycled materials, and 75 percent of construction waste was diverted from landfills. Additional sustainable initiatives include floor-to-ceiling windows to bring in natural light; French doors that welcome cooling breezes and minimize air conditioning use; water that’s filtered on-site; and eco-friendly amenities in guestrooms.
