Green Globe has re-certified the Mövenpick Resort Al Nawras in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Demonstrating leadership and innovation, the private island resort has succeeded in integrating sustainability into its business strategy.
In 2012, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia developed a framework for measuring and monitoring environmental challenges. As a result, the country adopted a complete list of standards and guidance to regulate environmental challenges-including air pollution, waste-water management, and transportation of chemicals-and the Mövenpick Resort Al Nawras stays in line with the nation’s green trends.
With a long-term sustainability management system in effect at the resort, energy and water consumption is optimized and strictly monitored. Bacteriological and chemical testing for water and ice cubes is done on a monthly basis. Waste volume, weight, and reduction goals are specified and a comprehensive reuse and recycle policy is in place. The Mövenpick Resort Al Nawras Jeddah also uses a purchasing policy that favors environmentally friendly and fair trade products.
