Hilton Worldwide is installing new Serta mattresses and box springs across its portfolio while finding an eco-friendly way to divert old beds from the landfill. A recycling program will turn more than 85 percent of mattresses and box springs into various products. Steel springs will find a new home in tools, cars, and construction materials, while wood will be used for tempered flooring, particle board shelving, and pressed-wood products. In addition, cotton fibers will form oil filters, mats, and stuffing; quit scrap will serve as carpet padding.
Hilton has partnered with DH Hospitality, which will install and remove mattresses, as well as ensure that all bed components are being recycled, not resold or re-covered, by requiring recycling centers to provide a certificate of recycling.
Hotels also will be able to provide additional items during guestroom renovations to Good360, a program that helps identify local nonprofits in need of casegoods.
