Despite electricity and gas prices rising 10 percent in 2009 and 2010, IHG hotels decreased their overall energy use by 9 percent in the same time period. About 1,300 properties in the portfolio use the Green Engage tool, which impacts their bottom line by using less energy. Green Engage has also allowed IHG to significantly improve its scoring in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an annual carbon disclosure report for global businesses and evaluation tool for investors that aims to drive decision making. With a carbon disclosure score of 76, IHG has also achieved for the first time the joint highest rating for performance (B) for a hotel company.
