Eco-friendly elements define the new Jekyll Island Convention Center in Georgia, which opened earlier this month. Targeting LEED Silver certification, the 128,000-square-foot facilities boast a number of green components, including:
- Solar panels
- Reflective roof
- Cistern for collecting and dispensing rainwater
- Low-impact lighting
- Shells and sea glass from Georgia shores ground into the hallway flooring and exterior sidewalks
- Reclaimed pine from South Georgia used in the flooring in one of the event rooms
- Front-row parking spots designated for electric automobiles with parking spaces complete with car chargers
