Kalaloch Lodge in Olympic National Park, Washington-operated by Delaware North Companies (DNC) Parks & Resorts at Kalaloch, Inc.-achieved ISO 14001 registration this month.
Set forth by the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized set of standards for environmental management. ISO’s 14001 environmental standards are designed to help organizations comply with related laws, regulations, and requirements; minimize how their processes affect the environment; and seek out ways to improve their operations from an environmental perspective.
“ISO 14001 is a continuous improvement process. It not only lends credibility to our environmental management system, but ensures our long-term responsibility to minimizing the environmental impact of our operations,” says Alec Bartolai, environmental manager at Kalaloch Lodge. “Registration makes sustainability an integral part of our day-to-day operations and forces us to always consider and look for ways to shrink our environmental footprint.”
DNC at Kalaloch Lodge has made a commitment to environmental stewardship through GreenPath, its environmental management system. The program is designed to conserve natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Through GreenPath-a program that has been recognized with 40â€â€œplus regional, national, and international awards-DNC has diverted thousands of tons from the solid waste stream, saved millions of gallons of water, and reduced energy consumption in its parks.
