The Marriott Inn & Conference Center, University of Maryland in College Park has attained the silver level of Green Seal Certification. The hotel, which was the first lodging to earn LEED status in 2004, met the following criteria:
- Waste minimization
- Energy efficiency, conservation, and management
- Management of fresh water resources
- Wastewater management
- Hazardous substances
- Environmentally and socially sensitive purchasing policy
Specific implementations include a robust recycling program, composting nearly all of the hotel’s food waste, dimmable lighting, drought-resistance landscaping, and the use of green cleaning products and low-VOC paints.
