Courtyard Portland City Center is the first Marriott hotel to earn LEED Gold certification. The hotel, designed by SERA Architects, has put into place a number of green initiatives. During construction, the hotel—which draws all its electricity from renewable sources—recycled and reused more than 75 percent of waste. Energy consumption has been reduced by 28 percent, while water consumption was lowered by 26 percent, thanks to dual-flush toilets. Guestrooms incorporate non-PVC wallcoverings, low VOC paints, and low urea-formaldehyde casework, while all light fixtures use CFLs. In the hotel’s kitchen, a waste composting program includes turning used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel.
The hotel’s 256 guestrooms are outfitted with original photographic murals detailing the rich culture and style of some of Oregon’s iconic landmarks, as well as original ceramic sculptures and paintings. Designed by David Ashen of D-ASH in New York City, the Original restaurant evokes the style and sophistication of mid-century Palm Springs. A dramatic floating staircase with a cactus garden leads to the second floor mezzanine with booth seating and lounge areas for communal dining. Large floor to ceiling windows open onto Portland’s business district.
Courtyard Portland City Center also offers a fitness facility, business library, and more than 5,300 square feet of meeting space.
