College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Maryland achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its sustainable redesign.
The hotel is one of four in the U.S. to achieve LEED’s highest level of certification and, in 2004, was the first in North America to become LEED-certified.
The 237-room hotel recently completed a multiphase, top-to-bottom refresh, making sustainable features—such as water efficiency, energy consumption, and indoor air quality—the property’s top priority.
The project reimagined guestrooms, public areas, and more than 40,000 square feet of meeting and event space including the renovation of the Chesapeake Ballroom and the addition of the Potomac Ballroom, a 250-seat conference dining room, and 18 meeting rooms. The Common pub and kitchen was also newly added.
Low-flow bathroom fixtures and high-efficiency lighting were installed throughout the property, and more than 90 percent of construction waste was recycled.
