Mohawk Industries has received the 2011 Virginia Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award category for its Glasgow, Virginia, manufacturing facility of Lees Carpets. The manufacturer earned the honor for its efforts to ensure little to no impact to the environment surrounding the Glasow plant, which is situated along the headwaters of the James River. Mohawk adjusted its manufacturing processes to reduce the amount of phosphorous and nitrogen (nutrient pollutants) utilized within the carpet dying process. As a result of the fine tuning, Mohawk not only met the government-mandated compliance levels but exceeded them by more than 50 percent.
