A memorandum of agreement (MOA) has been signed to develop two eco-tourism development properties in Langkawi, Malaysia. Signed between the Langkawi Development Agency (LADA) and Pekan Artisan, the agreement includes plans for the Paradise Island Hotel and Gardens and a second hotel on Pulau Intan Besaran island in Langkawi’s archipelago.
The Paradise Island Hotel and Gardens will see the expansion of Oriental Village-already an established visitor destination in Langkawi. Enclosed in an eco-rainforest with retail, restaurants, walking paths, and four multimedia attractions, the 250-room eco-hotel will be set on 25.57 acres of land. Also included in the development is a digital 4D theatre, which will feature a fly-over Langkawi immersive film. The first phase of the development is set to begin in 2015.
On the island of Pulau Intan Besar, the second development will include a 100-room hotel and 17 villas designed as a private luxury retreat.
Malaysian developer Pekan Artisan specializes in eco-tourism and is the sister company to Los Angeles-based Artisan Design. Pekan Design’s proposals support the Malaysian government’s hopes to position Langkawi as one of the top 10 tourist islands in the world by 2015.
“Both developments are eco-friendly, sensitively designed to reflect the beauty Langkawi, and both offer visitors a back-to-nature experience that will connect visitors with the nature, history, and culture of Malaysia,” says Robert Wyatt, CEO of Pekan Artisan.
