Renaissance Arlington Capital View has attained LEED Gold certification, thanks to a number of sustainable initiatives. These include heat island reduction with green roof, guest bike program, ozone protection with chlorine-free refrigerant, recyclable storage and collection, on-site carbon dioxide monitoring, use of low-emitting materials, and energy-efficient glass and lighting. In addition, the hotel, which opened in March 2011, was constructed with more than 26 percent of post-consumer recycled material.
