The Farzam family will open the eco-chic Shore Hotel in Santa Monica in October. Designed by Gensler, the 164-key property brings the beach indoors. Guestrooms are dressed in shades of teal and orange and outfitted with custom-made teak wood furniture, while the lobby features cream-colored sandstone walls and a reception area with glass walls affording stunning views of the ocean.
The open-air, U-shaped design of the main hotel building surrounds an outdoor pool and patio, which are situated under a distinctive steel-trestle roof. The main building also boasts a three-tier sky bridge that connects it to a second collection of rooms. Amenities will include two dining establishments, a fitness center, and meeting and special event spaces.
Green is a top priority for the hotel’s owners, who are pursuing LEED Silver certification. Sustainable features include roof-mounted solar panels, occupancy sensor systems, high-efficiency boilers and burners, and a host of water-saving features. Lobby chairs are upholstered with 100 percent pre-consumer recycled polyester, while guestroom carpet is manufactured with Eco Solution Q Nylon, which contains a minimum of 25 percent recycled content. Project Stone’s ecoQuartz bath vanity and desktops for the guest rooms contain ecologically safe solvents and adhesives. Green housekeeping policies will also be put into place.
