To play into the hotel’s former use as a liquor distillery, the lobby bar boasts custom shelves that hold whiskey bottles, while a marble table meant for tastings sits atop a Golden Hali-produced rug. Tassel pendants with fringe detailing from Bahar Lighting call to mind Turkish design and hang over Stoneline’s marble bar, lined with mustard-hued barstools.

In the Garden suite, a locally made textured wallcovering is a modern interpretation of Turkish fabric and divides the space into cozy nooks that open out onto a terrace. Taupe, gray, and plum tones juxtapose gold light fixtures and Stepevi rugs for “something warm but also clean and modern,” Yong says.

Golden Hali rugs covering the herringbone wood floors from local company Parkes Floors & Deco contrast the Art Deco-inspired metal grid ceiling and Bahar Lighting sconces and table lamps in the tea room. “The darker tone gives destination to the space,” adds Yong, anchoring the hotel in its location.

Guestroom headboards mix a resin-like material with MDF board to create a pattern that mimics the waves of the Bosphorus strait, while Stepevi rugs are minimal with a modern linear, damask-inspired pattern. Another elegant touch: minibar cabinet doors covered with inlay mother-of-pearl arranged in a vertical brick pattern.

What was once a highly underutilized space, the lobby stairwell is brought to life with an extravagant custom chandelier by Lasvit. Spanning nearly four stories, the 35-foot-tall installation resembles a hookah pipe made with LED lights and various glass objects. “You see just a hint of [the chandelier] from the lobby, and when you walk up the staircase, you have an experience,” says HBA associate Todd Ellenberger.

Because the elevator area is a pass-through space—locals enter the hotel through the back—“we wanted to create a sense of arrival from the backside,” Ellenberger explains. Sculptures and artwork from Imad Bechara and Bechara Studio enliven the original marble and gold-accented floor, while a Lasvit chandelier is informed by ribbons recalling the desert wind.

Another Bechara Studio element, the front desk sits in front of a 20-foot-long curved blue-pleated wall (done in Bart Halpern fabric) that is covered in a collection of various books by Middle Eastern authors. Torn in half, the books are overlaid with gold leaf and gilded objects, allowing guests to “find interest in the small pieces,” says Ellenberger.

Six circular chandeliers—also custom by Lasvit—create a sense of scale in the atrium lobby and Dunes Café. Lights encircle the pendant and crystal rods glow at night to create something airy that “you can see right through to the lights inside them,” Ellenberger points out. Meanwhile, axminster carpet from ICE International, crafted in a traditional Middle Eastern motif, establishes a sense of place.

The dining area—outfitted with a Selamet table base topped with a custom marble top and Palecek chairs—“evokes a coastal and resort vibe,” says Mazzarini. He also mixed in Kentucky horse farm elements, notably in the striped Perennials’ upholstery on the window seat. Porcelanosa floors mimic wood while yellow trimmed drapes from the Shade Store reflect the sunny Florida weather.

Mazzarini chose to mix residential items with hospitality-grade materials starting in the living space with Serena & Lily sofas covered in Sunbrella fabric. “We wanted it to have that natural hand to it,” he explains. Lamps from Ralph Lauren, tables from Wayfair, and artwork framed by Framebridge (depicting golf balls and shoes) complete the comfortable, lived-in atmosphere.
