Starwood is building upon its commitment to conservation with new water and energy use targets at its 1,000 hotels. In the next decade, the company is aiming for 30 percent less energy use and a 20 percent reduction in water consumption per available room.
“These targets aren’t just numbers, but an embodiment of our passion for creating positive change in our communities and our world,” says Starwood president and CEO Frits van Paasschen. “These efforts make sense operationally and our guests are choosing brands that share their sense of purpose for reducing environmental impact. Meeting and exceeding these expectations of our brands is a critical aspect to the way we see the future and importantly, our future success.”
Starwood’s existing sustainable initiatives include an environmental sustainable policy; a partnership with Conservation International; and the launch of the Element brand, whose hotels are all built to LEED standards.
