By November 2012, Turtle Island resort in Fiji will receive 89 percent of its power from the sun, saving about 127,000 liters of diesel fuel per year. What’s more, the resort estimates the project- which includes the installation of 968 solar panels throughout the island-will pay for itself within six years. Since Richard Evanson purchased Turtle Island in 1972, he’s been committed to preserving its natural beauty and rich biodiversity. To aid in this, only 14 couples are able to access the property at one time. Additionally, more than 500,000 trees, 100,000 of which are mahogany, have been planted on the island in the last 32 years.
