The Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel, located on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, has earned LEED Gold certification. The property achieved the status for energy use, lighting, water, and material use, as well as by incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies, including:
- An improved thermal envelope, high-efficiency glazing, and high-efficiency water source heat pumps resulting in an energy cost savings of 15.4 percent
- 87 percent of the on-site construction waste diverted from landfills to recycling agencies and 32.5 percent of the total building materials content by value were manufactured using recycled materials.
