On meeting partner Wong Chiu Man
We met in the second year of architecture school at the University of Southern California on a field trip to the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. Five years later, we returned and were married there.
Firm’s big break
Getting our first project from Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in 2001, the Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
Recently finished hotel
St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort [pictured]. It represents an exotic rendition of paradise, which displays a profound awareness of the complex ecosystems it inhabits.
Project you’re looking forward to
We are working on several hotels located on pristine heritage sites in Southeast Asia.
Favorite place to dine in Singapore
The Dempsey Cookhouse and Bar at Como Dempsey [by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten] because of the setting beneath a canopy of mature rain trees.
Travel destination of choice
The Maldives. It makes you feel more aware of the vulnerability of our ecosystem. We go there to participate in the cultivation of an organic garden and develop several programs to raise awareness about the environment.
Dream project
To develop a series of hotels for different ecosystems that integrates buildings with their surroundings.
