Ethical and socially responsible products illustrated the ongoing maker-crafter trend. One showstopper was Nakta, whose wool rugs are handmade by and support female artisans in Kyrgyzstan.

Responsibly sourced and produced goods that give back to the planet or communities has influenced design for some years now, but we’re going to see it emphasized even further in 2020. Numerous exhibitors answered the call, including Netherlands-based Zenza, which added a new pendant collection with shades fashioned from an ecofriendly loofah.

Highlighting the biophilia trend, Blooming Walls showcased a different sort of vertical garden. The Dublin-based company displayed Green Pockets and Green Pots, both of which are easy to attach to walls and railings via grommets that, in turn, facilitate removal and reconfiguration. Offered in acrylic-fiber and PVC, Green Pockets and Pots are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Danish furnishings and accessories company Normann Copenhagen exhibited the timeless, yet modern Form chair, which marries a gently curved molded-plastic shell to a rigid Nordic wood frame—a pairing that’s well suited to guestrooms, cafés, and other hospitality settings.

Ethnicraft’s tray tables come in round or rectangular side and coffee table options, a few of which offer nesting pieces. Defined by eye-catching patterns that range from geometric go organic, substrate options include wood or glass covered.

Le Feu’s newest offering is a space-saving egg-shaped hearth that can be installed on brick or concrete walls. Since it runs on biofuel, it doesn’t generate smoke and therefore doesn’t require ventilation.

Finnish artist Teemu Järvi displayed his impressive art prints and posters that subtly illustrate northerly wilderness. Think foxes, bears, woodpeckers, and otters on paper, thin plywood substrates, or fabrics. His use of traditional Asian tools like reed pens is what makes his work that much more precious and universal for traditional and contemporary spaces alike.
