For Angeline at the Jersey Shore’s Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Iron Chef and James Beard award-winner Michael Symon’s love letter to Italian food, Jeremy Levitt and Andrew Cohen, cofounders of New York-based Parts and Labor Design, wanted to combine Old World charm with contemporary details for a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere. “Inspired by Michael’s mother and her style of old-school Italian cooking, we infused every element of the space with design details that evoke instant warmth and a sense of nostalgia,” explains Levitt, all put through an urban lens. That starts at the façade: taking inspiration from Brooklyn storefronts, it boasts black mullions and a gold foil logo.
Inside, that dark color palette is infused with feminine details “further emphasizing the vintage style,” he explains. The restaurant’s three spaces—the bar, main dining area, and rear dining area, separated by custom glass and steel glazing walls or low wood and tile partitions—are decked out in brown and black wood, dark green leather and tiles, marble, and custom furniture and light fixtures done with brass accents. A highlight, says Levitt, is the private dining room. Set beyond a wood-paneled wall dotted with interior windows, low ceilings, black and white floral wallpaper, “family photos,” an antique mirror, and lace drapery, create an intimate, parlor feel.
