The new Taipei outpost of popular Taiwan chain Bite to Eat mimics the many experiences guests might encounter during a dinner party at an Italian manor. Inside the three-level building designed by local firm HAO Design, the first floor porch space features a cast-iron gate and kiln-fired tiles that call to mind European street scenes, while a small bazaar near the front window sells Italian ingredients. A spiral staircase leads to the sundrenched second floor, which feels like a patio thanks to hand-distressed white fir paneling on the walls and ceilings. Here, a family-friendly section near the windows contains low tables set atop brightly hued flatweave rugs. The third level’s terrazzo floors help to create an outdoor feel, enhanced by small bistro tables and tent-like structures. Campaign-style chairs, textured walls, and hemp lighting contribute to the more rugged ambiance.
