Milan-based DWA Design Studio teamed up with Montreal Lighting and design company Lambert & Fils for the “anti-digital” Caffé Populaire, a stylish pop-up for this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan. For six days, attendees were encouraged to put away their phones and “gather around a common table to share food and ideas,” says Frederik De Wachter, cofounder of DWA Design Studio. The raw industrial space sets the tone for the stripped-back interiors that produced “an immersive scenography for visitors, layering textures, light, furniture, objects, and food,” he says. Adjacent to the white and green terrazzo bar was the custom U-shaped communal table made from Silipol fragments, an ecological material of compressed marble and granite dust. A collection of Sainte pendants from Lambert & Fils were the focal point, solidifying the design firm’s goal to create a friendly restaurant that would bring people together over food and drinks.
