DUMBO House, the first Brooklyn outpost for Soho House, is inspired by its unique location in the rehabbed brick-covered Empire Stores warehouse overlooking the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and the East River. “We took inspiration from the neighborhood’s history and looked to evoke the artists’ studios that occupied Brooklyn warehouses in the 1960s and ’70s,” says Candace Campos, Soho House Design’s U.S. design director. In the club space, this translates to a mix of plush vintage and new furniture pieces in bright hues and patterns, as well as the walls and ceiling painted the same blue as the Manhattan Bridge. The kitchen is the focal point of the dining room, with an open plan and tables positioned to face the action. Artworks from David Adjaye, Zoe Buckman, and Steven Siegel adorn walls, while a variety of plants and grasses bring the outside in. “This was perhaps the most modern space we’ve ever worked with for a Soho House,” adds Campos. “It was important to warm it up and make sure it still had the Soho House feel without doing anything that might sacrifice the view.”
