With a gutsy yet refined interior inspired by Kate Middleton, MiddleTown Café pays tribute to the Duchess of Cambridge’s journey from the English countryside to Kensington Palace. The brunch-focused restaurant “embodies Kate’s warmth and accessibility in spite of her rise to the pinnacle of British high society,” explains Carley Nicholls, strategy and practice director at Melbourne-based Studio Tate, which teamed up with local graphic design studio Pop & Pac on the project. The interiors seamlessly blend feminine details like curved brass light fixtures, pastel chairs, and crisp, white marble with warm wood accents, terrazzo flooring in a checkerboard pattern, and a bold backdrop of marine blue. At the same time, “intricate parquetry and the use of perforated metal create visual interest, while clean lines and warm lighting add to the welcoming, comfortable ambiance,” says Studio Tate design director Alex Hopkins.
