Toronto’s bright and airy Italian eatery Oretta is a glamorous all-day affair, courtesy of local firm Commute Design. The indulgent Art Deco scheme comes alive through a striking installation of geometric brass cutouts along the stairwell, and curved pink velvet panels on the back wall. Bright blue and chartreuse seating is accentuated by a multicolored herringbone tile inset on the floor, which leads patrons past the marble bar to the grab-and-go café. “Clients often shy away from too much color,” explains firm cofounder and designer Sara Parisotto, but here, exploring color allows “the palette to carry itself while still being classic.” Sleek mobile chandeliers draw the eye toward soaring vaulted ceilings and the more intimate dining area on the mezzanine.
