The sophisticated, residential design of six distinct venues spread out over three floors on the top of the Park Hyatt Bangkok—the brand’s newest, housed in the former British Embassy—speaks to the whims of a fictitious Thai-British gentleman. It became “a way to celebrate and honor both cultures while creating a rich and eclectic tapestry of experience,” notes William Harris, an AvroKO principal, who, along with partners Adam Farmerie, Kristina O’Neal, and Greg Bradshaw, crafted the Penthouse.

In the Grill dining room on the 34th floor, gold and gray tones mingle with elaborate screens and geometric floors, says Farmerie, while the chef’s table is located inside the kitchen for a wholly immersive experience. Custom paintings by a Thai artist flank the entrance, and a vintage 1960s BMW R27 motorcycle by the host stand adds a rock ‘n’ roll touch. It sits in a luxe space wrapped in walnut “with brass trim, dark gray horsehair, and a silk wallcovering,” explains O’Neal, at the base of a satin brass and marble staircase that connects the various spaces, thanks in part to a dramatic 16-foot-tall chandelier.

One floor up is the mezzanine—a place for VIPs to mingle in the intimate lounge—as well as the moody Cocktail and Whisky bars, done in ebony, gold, and gray tones that contrast deep red hues on chairs and barstools. Semiprivate lounge areas off the corridor draw guests to the DJ booth that is “seamlessly built into the backbar,” says Bradshaw. Once in Whisky, patrons are greeted by an eye-catching “shattered wall” backbar made from angular pieces of Macassar ebony, while chestnut-colored leather furnishings finish the speakeasy’s elegant yet mysterious vibe. But the crowning moment of the complex is the 36th floor rooftop terrace, which showcases the city’s skyline.
