The details: To outfit the scene-stealing, industrial Punkcraft beer hall in Kiev, Ukraine, architects Alexander Ivasiv and Yuliya Tkachenko of Ater Architects opted for a pared-down approach. “Stylistically, we were inspired by the industrial aesthetic of beer equipment and the philosophy of the craft brewing movement itself with freedom, punk, and experiments,” says Ivasiv. That translated to a curated combination of materials, including stainless steel on the ceiling, concrete on the bar, and neon lights strategically placed throughout the underground hall. To create the illusion of a soaring ceiling, the pair designed a modular, arched metal installation that hangs above the bar “as a reference to the brick vaults of the neighboring halls,” says Tkachenko, adding that the guest’s overall comfort, as well as allowing them to embrace the spirit of craft brewing, were the underlying factors behind the design.
