The goal with Sierra Madre Taquería was to translate the bold colors and flavors of Mexico to Vigo, Spain. “Mexico is pure color,” explains Arminda Espino Vera, a founding partner at Tui, Spain-based Erbalunga Studio. “The game of scales, intense colors, sincerity, and constructive simplicity speak of a universe all their own.” Here, deep green, sunny yellow, and a radiant coral are balanced by light-washed wood. Chosen as the primary material throughout, it provides a counterpoint to the vivid color scheme and helps to delineate the seating areas. Clay lattice partitions “generate transparencies and depths to give an atmosphere of a larger, but more intimate space,” he points out. In addition, grid ceiling fixtures and colorful pendants suspended from bright cords add a sense of height.
