Wellness powerhouse Six Senses will make its North American debut with a sumptuous urban retreat in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. The twisting towers from Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) will span a full city block, rising high above the heart of Manhattan.

Located within the Crown Building, Aman heads to Manhattan, joining the Aman Tokyo as the brand’s second urban destination. Led by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, expect an inviting design that pays homage to the building’s Neoclassical vernacular.

Jean-Michel Gathy is also responsible for the design of One&Only’s first European resort, the One&Only Portonovi in Montenegro. The secluded retreat in Boka Bay will frame mountain views and the Adriatic Sea, providing guests with an elegant haven in an otherworldly destination.

Sydell Group’s NoMad brand will take its talents across the pond with a Covent Garden outpost in London. The highly anticipated European debut features interiors from longtime collaborator Roman and Williams, which will transform a former court and police station into the lavish 91-room property.

Ace Hotel Group is pulling out all the stops for the Ace Hotel Kyoto in Japan, slated to open in the spring. Kengo Kuma joins Los Angeles firm Commune on the design, which will marry the natural surroundings with Ace’s hip, unpretentious vibe. (The brand’s global expansion includes a property opening in Toronto this year, as well.)

Also helmed by Kengo Kuma, the Tokyo EDITION Toranomon will take Ian Schrager’s luxury brand to new heights when it opens in mid-2020. Looking ahead, EDITION’s growth spurt continues with openings in Reykjavik (spearheaded by Roman and Williams) and Dubai, designed in partnership with LW Design Group.

Jean Nouvel and Philippe Starck will bring their French sensibilities to South America with the forthcoming opening of the Rosewood São Paulo. Nouvel’s tower will pay tribute to the Atlantic Forest along Brazil’s coast with a latticed steel exterior dripping with local vegetation, while interiors will feature several types of wood and marble.

With doors opening in June, the Londoner, the latest from Edwardian Hotels London, is set to become a new icon in the city’s landscape. Flaunting a contemporary design from Yabu Pushelberg, the ambitious 350-room hotel in Leicester Square will boast panoramic views, two private screening rooms, six F&B spots, and a rooftop terrace.

The 149-key Pendry West Hollywood—the handiwork of Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects—will act as a love letter to Los Angeles with an Art Deco-inspired design when it opens this year. The property will feature a rooftop pool and lounge, a penthouse-level restaurant helmed by Wolfgang Puck, music venue, screening room, café, and basement social club with bowling lanes.

Richard Branson’s Virgin brand has big hospitality plans in 2020. First, Virgin will transform the Las Vegas skyline when the Virgin Las Vegas opens in the former Hard Rock Hotel in fall 2020, with Rockwell Group, Klai Juba Wald Architecture + Interiors, and Studio Collective leading the design. Meantime, the irreverent brand will hit the high seas with the launch of the Scarlet Lady, counting concrete, Roman and Williams, and Tom Dixon as design partners.

The 10th hotel from the affordable lifestyle brand and the sixth in Europe, the 192-room Hoxton Rome will celebrate the brand’s eclectic, stripped-back style. Set in a 1970s building, in-house design team Ennismore will take cues from classic midcentury Italian design, with each room featuring geometric timber wall paneling, bespoke brass lighting, and bold colors.

OMA is leading the design of Desa Potato Head, the first creative village in Bali. With a focus on sustainability, the interiors will comprise recycled plastics and sustainable materials with furnishings from Balinese artisans. A music recording studio and a subterranean nightclub will also be featured onsite.

Spearheaded by Glazier Le, Delawie Architects, and EDG, the the Montage Healdsburg in Northern California wine country will double as a wellness sanctuary. Set on 258 acres, the 130 bungalow-style guestrooms and public spaces will be crafted with sustainability in mind.

With the goal to redefine luxury through an eco-friendly, technology-driven lens, the Kisawa Sanctuary in Mozambique will blend traditional architecture with 3D sand-printing technology. With 12 bungalows positioned along 750 acres of forest, beach, and sand dunes, the resort highlights an inclusive design approach that protects the environment while featuring the work of skilled artisans from Benguerra Island.

Floating on the Lule River, the 12-room, low-impact, circular-shaped Arctic Bath in Lapland, Sweden will open in February with a design from architects Bertil Harström and Johan Kaupp centered around a wellness-first approach.

Located along 380 protected acres in Lenox, Massachusetts in the heart of Berkshire Country, the Miraval Berkshires will feature a design from Clodagh focused on transforming people’s lives via the brand’s signature programs and treatments.

Lyon Porter’s hip, eclectic, gritty Urban Cowboy brand has found a niche in trendy cities like Brooklyn and Nashville. For his next iteration, he and co-owner Phil Hospod opted for a cozy lodge in New York’s Catskills Mountains. The wilderness retreat is an update on an 1890s-era property and includes multiple log structures, a freestanding cabin, and a standalone chalet—all surrounding a main lodge nestled within the mountains.

Omaha, Nebraska will welcome the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel this spring with a design from DLR Group, in partnership with Kimpton’s in-house design team and design architect Leo A Daly. Formerly the Blackstone Hotel, the design will reference the building’s storied history when it hosted celebrities and politicians including Jimmy Stewart, Eleanor Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy.

Austin’s hotel renaissance continues with the opening of the 54-room Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection in spring 2020. Dating back to 1928, the 10,800-square-foot Italianate mansion will be updated by designer Ken Fulk, who will imbue the hotel with a curated mix of custom and vintage pieces that recall the time period.

Led by New York firm Parts and Labor Design, the Thompson Washington DC will debut in the Yards neighborhood this month. With a design that pays homage to the city’s Navy Yard, industrial patterns and gray textures will add a rich patina to the sleek 225-room hotel—another much-anticipated addition to the nation capital’s burgeoning hotel scene.
