Wellness powerhouse Six Senses will make its North American debut with a sumptuous urban retreat in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. The twisting towers from Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) will span a full city block, rising high above the heart of Manhattan.

Located within the Crown Building, Aman heads to Manhattan, joining the Aman Tokyo as the brand’s second urban destination. Led by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, expect an inviting design that pays homage to the building’s Neoclassical vernacular.

Jean-Michel Gathy is also responsible for the design of One&Only’s first European resort, the One&Only Portonovi in Montenegro. The secluded retreat in Boka Bay will frame mountain views and the Adriatic Sea, providing guests with an elegant haven in an otherworldly destination.

Sydell Group’s NoMad brand will take its talents across the pond with a Covent Garden outpost in London. The highly anticipated European debut features interiors from longtime collaborator Roman and Williams, which will transform a former court and police station into the lavish 91-room property.

Ace Hotel Group is pulling out all the stops for the Ace Hotel Kyoto in Japan, slated to open in the spring. Kengo Kuma joins Los Angeles firm Commune on the design, which will marry the natural surroundings with Ace’s hip, unpretentious vibe. (The brand’s global expansion includes a property opening in Toronto this year, as well.)

Nouvel’s tower will pay tribute to the Atlantic Forest along Brazil’s coast with a latticed steel exterior dripping with local vegetation, while interiors will feature several types of wood and marble.

Flaunting a contemporary design from Yabu Pushelberg, the ambitious 350-room hotel in Leicester Square will boast panoramic views, two private screening rooms, six F&B spots, and a rooftop terrace.

Richard Branson’s Virgin brand has big hospitality plans in 2020. First, Virgin will transform the Las Vegas skyline when the Virgin Las Vegas opens in the former Hard Rock Hotel in fall 2020, with Rockwell Group, Klai Juba Wald Architecture + Interiors, and Studio Collective leading the design. Meantime, the irreverent brand will hit the high seas with the launch of the Scarlet Lady, counting concrete, Roman and Williams, and Tom Dixon as design partners.

OMA is leading the design of Desa Potato Head, the first creative village in Bali. With a focus on sustainability, the interiors will comprise recycled plastics and sustainable materials with furnishings from Balinese artisans. A music recording studio and a subterranean nightclub will also be featured onsite.

Lyon Porter’s hip, eclectic, gritty Urban Cowboy brand has found a niche in trendy cities like Brooklyn and Nashville. For his next iteration, he and co-owner Phil Hospod opted for a cozy lodge in New York’s Catskills Mountains. The wilderness retreat is an update on an 1890s-era property and includes multiple log structures, a freestanding cabin, and a standalone chalet—all surrounding a main lodge nestled within the mountains.

Dating back to 1928, the 10,800-square-foot Italianate mansion will be updated by designer Ken Fulk, who will imbue the hotel with a curated mix of custom and vintage pieces that recall the time period.
