Having designed Hôtel du Ministère’s primary building in 2011, Agence François Champsaur was called back to augment the property’s 24 accommodations with 11 standard guestrooms, two split-level guestrooms, and five duplex suites—all with a bold and artful aesthetic rooted in colorful patterns.

The new annex boasts a façade with glass windows that are clad in a black steel grid that inspired the Eiffel Tower homage.

“I look to art for inspiration,” says Agence François Champsaur founder François Champsaur, who used neutral flooring as a backdrop for brightly hued décor in select accommodations. “Our color palette was influenced by [Piet] Mondrian, [Joan] Miró, and other contemporary masters.”

Skylights original to the annex were retained “to create the feeling of staying in an artist’s studio,” explains Champsaur, who channeled the creative studios that once occupied the building.

“The choice in furnishings—oak essentially—follows the building’s original industrial-era style,” says Champsaur.
