Originally opened in the late 1980s, the 320-key Newport Marriott was transformed with a $35 million revamp by Malcolm Berg, owner and principal of Coral Gables, Florida-based EoA. Thousands of uplit ropes strung above the Skiff bar reflect its new nautical design language.

The hotel’s updated atrium is complete with crisp white canvas accents and mast-like wooden poles.

Neutral tones are enhanced with light blue accents in the suites and guestrooms.

Accommodations also feature linen curtains, sailcloth-covered chairs, and backlit canvas headboards.

More ropes encircle a seating area complete with a cauldron-like water feature in the lobby’s Plank bar.

Handcrafted walnut booths at Main Sail restaurant recall the vessels moored at the marina outside.
