For the Renaissance Milwaukee West, Chicago-based Simeone Deary Design Group (SDDG) set out to create a modern design that still feels approachable. “We draw from local influences and work to find that perfect balance between a hotel and its surroundings,” says SDDG owner Gina Deary, “so it was a pleasure to find so much richness to tap into in the Wauwatosa community—from the fact that it’s a local shopping mecca to its long Scandinavian heritage. Those cues inspired us to introduce the fantasy of fashion and the natural design tension of masculine and feminine forms.”
The prefunction area is bedecked with a wallcovering by Innovations, a custom Skypad International chaise upholstered in an Osborne & Little fabric, Bluebird Lighting sconces, and Brintons carpet.
A colorful, abstract floral rug from Brintons enlivens a guestroom. The armchair is from Danish Design Store and covered in a gray Maharam textile, while the coffee and side tables are both from Distinction Hospitality. “Creating a unique conceptual design for each project is such an important part of our process,” says Deary. “Everything flows from those beautiful stories—they really take on a life of their own, firing up our imaginations and inspiring every detail.”
The 12-story hotel boasts 196 guestrooms and suites outfitted with custom light fixtures from Bluebird Lighting and casegoods from Distinction Hospitality. The headboard features a Panaz fabric and the desk lamp is from RH.
A sleek mix of materials accentuates the lobby. The back wall is covered in dramatic black drapery from Luum Textiles constructed by Miceli Drapery Company, while an abstract installation of hanging ropes is by Amsterdam-based Noman Studio. The terrazzo floor tile is from Terrazzio, and the check-in desk was made by USA Millwork with a stone slab sourced from Stone City.
