For the restoration of Flemings Mayfair, London-based designer Grant White “wanted to re-capture and then re-invent the golden age of Mayfair.” “New Flemings is a celebration of style: the English have always had a flair for understated elegance and extracting service, for glamour which purrs rather than shrieks, and that is what we set out to create-an elegant luxurious cocoon,” he says.
Flemings Mayfair Hotel has retained all the comfort and old world charm for which it is renowned, but the more expected chintzy floral designs, often associated with English Georgian interiors, have been playfully replaced with over-sized classic furniture shapes spiked with striking contemporary colors.
Offering a fully bespoke solution, Grant White Design worked closely with the hotel owners to ensure that every detail was covered and considered. White mixed scale, shape and pattern, and used every available surface to bounce reflective images of rooms within rooms, to make every view a curious wonder about where a room might begin and end.
In the Front Room maximalistic styling and detailing resonates from every surface-from the reflective golden tones of the papered ceilings and the striped charcoal gray wallpaper, to the glorious chandeliers and a veritable explosion of vivid fabrics-all combine to give guests the immediate impression that this place knows how to have fun.
The marshmallowy comfort of the Tea Room’s pink curvy banquette “is the best seat in the house,” says Wayne Banks of Grant White Design. “But the pure glamour of the mirrored walls and leather diamond panels of the Private Dining Room is the hidden gem,” suggests White.
Even the meetings held in the Looking Glass Room, where the modern designer seating has been given the Grant White magic touch by using two different reflective fabrics on each chair.
